(Millersville, MD) For the 24 hour period beginning at midnight on Tuesday, June 21st the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to 243 incidents (daily average is 220).

Bicyclist Struck                                              Gambrills


A 72-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured on Tuesday morning after a motorcycle struck his bike on Defense Highway. Around 8:50 a.m. firefighters responded to the area of Route 450 (Defense Highway) near Huntwood Drive for a motor vehicle collision involving a bicycle. Based on information from the initial 911 callers, a Maryland State Police helicopter was requested with the initial fire department response. Witnesses reported to arriving firefighters that the patient was riding his bike when his rear wheel was struck by a motorcycle, throwing the patient several feet from his bike. He was wearing a helmet. Paramedics transported the patient to the helicopter landing site at Bell Branch Park, and he was flown to Shock Trauma with serious but not believed life-threatening injuries. Information is not available regarding whether the operator of the motorcycle remained on the scene.
