MILLERSVILLE, Md. - For the 24 hour period beginning at midnight on Wednesday, June 29th the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to 235 incidents (daily average is 220).

Incidents of Media Interest Wednesday, June 29th:

One person received serious injuries Wednesday morning when a tree struck the passenger bus he was operating. Firefighters responded to the area of Ritchie Highway South and Chautaugua Road just after 7:15 a.m. for the reports of a tree which had fallen on a bus with a person trapped. Arriving firefighters found a 15-passemger bus which had been struck by a tree while it was traveling south on Ritchie Highway. The driver was trapped, and two passengers were complaining of minor injuries. Firefighters worked for about 35 minutes to free the driver, a 57-year-old male. He was treated by paramedics and then transported to a waiting Maryland State Police helicopter which had landed at a nearby church. The patient was transported by helicopter to Shock Trauma with injuries that were serious but not believed life threatening. The two patients with minor injuries were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center by paramedics. There were no other occupants on passengers on the bus and no other vehicles involved.

Media Event Regarding Smoke Alarms
There will be a media event this morning for the announcement of a grant from Baltimore Gas and Electric to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to provide smoke alarms to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department.
